My favourite time of the year is arriving: Spring/ Summer! All the great designers have revealed their new collections, and it looks like every woman will find “chaussures a son pied”.
I’m always inspired by the hot season collections. They are always full of different colours, shapes and textures. I also find that they give a bigger creative platform for everyone, even those who usually find it hard to play around and be bold with their own style.
For the ladies who never know whether to pick between dark and light, this time around you won’t have to make up your mind. Some designers have made the decisions for us, creating timeless pieces using both contrasts. Redarte, Balmain and Ralph Laurent presented elegant and classic looks by revisiting the black and white duo print.
One of the reasons why I love the hot seasons so much is because the whole world around us is awakening. It’s a time full of promises, life and desire; desire for a fresh start but also the desire to seduce and be seduced. Lucky for us Mesdemoiselles, some designers have captured that youthful and sexy energy in some of their creations. So you mostly just have to throw on some transparent delicate laces, dresses, skirt or top that you can choose from Oscar De La Renta, Isabel Marant, Nina Ricci…And walk around like a romantic goddess.
Geoffrey Gurrumal Yunupingu sings in Djarimirri in his native Yolngu language: “ŋarranydja dhuwala, yothu Djarimirri” which means: “I’ m a rainbow child”. I have felt like that all my life! Born in Burundi from a Rwandese Mother and a Kenyan Father, I moved to Belgium at the age of 6 and was raised there for the next 16 years. I then ended up moving to Australia. As I feel lucky and proud to be part of so many different places I never put myself in any boxes. I eat, speak, dress, dream and live through so many different cultures, I feel like I’m from everywhere. When it comes to fashion though, I must admit that I’m always drawn to a more “ethnic” look, so you can imagine how delighted I was to discover some of the designers beautiful takes on tribal clothing.
From Valentino precious embroideries to Givenchy graphic prints and Alexander McQueen heavy jewelry, the spring/ summer collections of 2014 will take you for a round the world stylish trip!
